There’s
nothing like a game to get women warmed up and ready to have fun, meet
new friends and grow in the Lord. Here’s a few of my favorites:
Scavenger Hunt
Team game. They
will have to hunt their wallets, purses, what they’re
wearing and where they’ve been, what they’ve done, etc. Give
them a list of things to add up. You can assign points for each item
found. For instance, every stamp found is 5 points, library card 10 points,
each picture of a child, red pen, painted toenails (count them up), American
made clothes, sales receipts (find out who the shoppers are), bird (usually
found on a credit card!), roman numerals (found on some watches). certain
state quarters, etc. Assign points according to difficulty.
I modify the list for every group. I may throw in, “Anyone who’s
been out of the country this year.” “How many phones in each
house.” Get creative. The gals love this! Buy cheap prizes. For
retreats, do it by cabin and give them items to find like a country music
CD (they’ll all be running out to their cars), an ace bandage,
tummy mints, battery, church bulletin, etc. Give them a paper bag and
the most found items wins a prize.
Getting to Know You
Make
two circles, one inside the other, even number of ladies. Start the music
and have the women walk (or dance) in opposite directions for
about 20-30 seconds. Stop the music and have each woman who’s facing
each other answer a question. Play the music again and time it for a
few seconds more or less than before. Make up your own questions.
- How’d
you get your name? (My mom loved Janis Paige, true story)
- What’s
your favorite movie?
- One famous or fun fact about your home town.
- Who was your first
love?
- Be creative
Candy Mixer
Pass a basket filled with wrapped candy around the room. Or have ladies
pick one their "favorite" when the arrive. Have different
varieties. The idea is to instruct each gal to hold up her candy and
quickly move around the room to find other women with the same favorite
candy they have. ....( There should be groups of women, ten or less,
and they have to find one thing they all have in common (because they
liked the same candy); all have kids, all like to garden, travel, all
born in California, all have pets, etc. It gets them really mixing....Then
have a spokesperson share that with the whole group. It's very fun
and interesting...
Two Truths,
One Lie: Each gal at the table writes down two truths and
one lie about herself. Then the table confers and votes on which one
is the lie.
Variation: Each lady at the table guesses and gets a point for the
right answer. At the end, the winner gets a prize.
Get to Know You Bingo:
Create a bingo card...(Jan will send you the template by e-mail) with
the free space in the middle. In each box you put questions like: Shops
at Trader Joes, Has never flown in an airplane, Is wearing blue, Wears
contacts, has painted toenails, does not like chocolate, was born outside
the United States, has worn braces.... Women go around trying to fill it up and the first one or 2-3 wins.
We have done this and it's quite fun and lively.....
" Well,
I never..."
Give each gal at the table a bean for each person at the table. Each
person says "Well I never" and finishes i t with something
they have never done; i'e. I have never broken a bone. I have never worn
braces. Then everyone who had worn braces has to give the speaker a bean.
After going around the table, the one with the most beans wins.
Where did you get your name:
Have each gal tell her name and how she ended up with it, who she was
named after, etc. Just a nice conversation starter.
