Unshakeable; the Steadfast Heart of Obedience
Standing
for God no matter what—it brings firmer faith and renewed
purpose. But doing the right thing is our biggest challenge, especially
in the downpours of life.Unshakeable opens with a crisis of faith as
Jan’s self-will wrestles with God’s will. She then recalls
friends with similar decisions; when a marriage was miserable, when singleness
may be forever, when doing the right thing meant losing possessions or
hard hard-fought status or security. Yet, these people chose to love
God and keep his commandments, and were rewarded with a steadfast heart
that can never be shaken when the storms come. A captivating storyteller,
Jan stresses that the light to live by glows in the deep regions of an
obedient heart.

After
the Locusts
My first book, After the Locusts;
Restoring Ruined Dreams, Reclaiming Wasted Years, has been buzzing
around in my head for almost twenty years, since my husband decided to
leave his family for someone else. I
felt like a swarm of icky bugs had swooped down and devastated my dreams,
destroyed my future. Then, I found
God's promise of hope tucked in the Old Testament Book of Joel: "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten." (2:25)
I not only survived the storm, but thrived in spite of out.
Now, after the locusts, there is a deep valley in my soul, not
a dark valley, but a giant crevice where joy has settled in, a joy I'd
never known without the storm.
I
spent the next decade sharing the promise with other hurting women, urging
them to partner with God to replant their lives.
When I was finally ready to tackle a book, it naturally had to
be this one.
We don't deal with plagues of old anymore, but plagues of the heart
come in many forms; loss of a marriage, death of a loved one, painful
abuse, illness, personal failure. Chapter
themes highlight verses from Joel, so you'll know more about this obscure
book when you finish. You'll also meet women who have experienced loss
and disappointment, but God restored them in surprising and unexpected
ways. If you're suffering pain or regret, or want to encourage someone
who is, you'll want to read this book.
